CHENNAI: The pavilion at Murugappa Cricket Ground, Avadi was inaugurated on Monday evening by N. Srinivasan, Honorary Secretary, BCCI, amid a sudden downpour that threw proceedings an hour off schedule.

The new 4,200 square feet pavilion includes two open terraces, a viewing gallery and a spacious dining area.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Srinivasan said, “This ground is capable of holding a Ranji Trophy match. The pavilion is a great addition and I congratulate all those who have been associated with it.”

Mr. Srinivasan also highlighted the role of corporates in developing sport in the city.

“In no other city except Chennai do you find such strong corporate support for cricket,” he said.

A. Vellayan, Executive Chairman, Murugappa Group, also brought in focus the role of corporates in promoting sport.

“It is important for corporates to get into sports administration, only then will the standard of sport in the country rise,” he said.

Kasi Viswanathan, Secretary, TNCA, was also present.
