Mr M.A. Alagappan, Executive Chairman, Murugappa Group, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Birmingham City University, according to a press release from the Murugappa Group.

The award was presented on Thursday by the Chancellor of the University, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, at a function in Birmingham city’s international convention centre. The award is conferred on persons who have achieved eminence in public and professional life.

The release, quoting Mr Alagappan, said that he sees the honour as a recognition of the century-old Murugappa Group’s values and beliefs that have contributed to its success.

Mr Alagappan is also the Honorary Consul of Hungary, South India, and has been involved with several industry bodies, the release said.
